how to make a blog route map
There are so many travel blogs online, but when you view one it is often difficult not only to figure out where the traveler is but also where he has been, what route he has taken. There is a solution. You can attach a map to your blog, and place it anywhere you like on the blog – in a post, under the blog title or in the blog side bar. You can also alter the size of the map having it either as a small square or a much larger map.
Blogabond (i.e. vagabond but a blog!) is a site where you can write a travel blog and interact with other travel bloggers, however they also have this useful map gadget which you can use on any site, blog or Squidoo lens. Using their map gadget you can mark a route on a map adding destinations to form a line showing where you went or have been on your travels.
To add a map to your blog you must first join Blogabond for free, then go to "make a map" and start adding destinations. If you have already started a map then you go to "Add and rearrange stops with mapbuilder".
As you add a destination it appears marked on your map. Once you have completed and saved your route on the map you can then scroll down the page and copy the code. Take the code to your blog and enter it where there is an option to add code. I have used this on my blog backpacking-Europe-1991 to show the route we took on our trip. Every time I write about a new destination we visited I go back to Blogabond add the destination then recopy and repast the new map onto my blog. There is no way of updating the map you have already added to your blog you have to return to Blogabond add the new destination to your old Blogabond map and then replace the old one on your blog with the new code. Once your Blogabond map is on your blog the map is interactive in that the map can be magnified and moved around.
If somehow the update could be done on the existing map on your blog that would be even better. Also if it was possible to make the same kind of route map within a city, a road map this would also be extremely useful.
Adding a route map to your blog will make your travels come alive as much as an image helps to make the travel destination real to your readers. Also when your blog tells the tale of a long journey this route map on Blogabond will help readers to follow you, where ever you are in the world.
Blogabond was originally intended as a travel blog site and the map you add to your site or blog will come with a link back to Blogabond. The other features of Blogabond include being a venue for a travel blog; having a forum for all discussions about travel; searching for a destination or person on the site and you can get statistics of how many people have viewed your map. I have not tried using the other features ofBlogabond and personally I am satisfied with Blogger, but their route map is an essential tool for travel bloggers on any site.
