5 New WordPress Themes for Bloggers

The new WordPress themes for bloggers are out! WordPress.com has launched five new themes in the late summer of 2012. The themes are titled Twenty Twelve, Able, Sight, Ascetica and Gridspace. The themes differ by style, from classic to trendy, and organization, from one column to three. Bloggers have many choices with the five newest designs.

WordPress announces five new themes for bloggers. Begun in 2003, WordPress is today the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, according to WordPress.Org.  The five themes were each unveiled in late summer posts on the WordPress Weblog, making them the newest editions to over 200 themes available through the site. The new designs are Gridspace, Ascetica, Able, Sight and Twenty Twelve.

Twenty Twelve

It is halfway through 2012 before WordPress reveals its default theme for the year, appropriately titled Twenty Twelve. The theme is part of the site’s Twenty Somethings collection. Each year a banner theme is created that is versatile enough to suit a blog or a website, contains essential WordPress features and is pleasing in appearance. Enter Twenty Twelve.

The theme separates itself from the other choices for bloggers with a special homepage template and a mobile-first layout. The homepage layout increases a blogger’s’ ability to customize the page as it is the first piece seen by readers. The upper area spotlights text, images, video and other content, while special widgets that are custom to the homepage sit lower. The modern Open Sans font is used this year.

The theme Able is versatile enough to appeal to many WordPress bloggers. The theme supports up to three columns and is described by WordPress as “clean, responsive, and highly readable”. The theme is an update to the older classic themes Andreas 04 and Andreas 09.

The ability to alter number of columns allows bloggers to personalize the theme to their preferences and according to the subject matter of their site.  There are color palettes to choose from when implementing Able.

Able WordPress Theme

The theme Sight is created by WordShower, a team of designers that offers free and premium WordPress themes. The theme appears simple yet high quality. WordPress explains that the feel of the theme suits both blogs and online magazines.

While Able features up to three columns, Sight has a right sidebar for widgets. There are two custom menu locations, with one in the header and one just below this location.

Sight WordPress Theme

Thank the team at Graph Paper Press for creating Gridspace. The WordPress theme is designed for bloggers looking to showcase their portfolio, music or photography.

The versatility of the design allows users to switch easily between grid view and list view.  As well, there are both light and dark color schemes. There is a spot specifically to place a personal logo, allowing branding and marketing advantages for users.

Gridspace WordPress Theme

From AlienWP comes the WordPress theme Ascetica. The template is simplistic and offers white-space rather than clutter. In turn, bloggers’ content is the main attraction.

A key feature of Ascetica is the post slider. Bloggers can feature up to 10 of their posts in the responsive slider. When the posts are marked as sticky by users, they fall clearly under a feature image. Create a custom header and custom background to add individuality.

Ascetica WordPress Theme

The new WordPress themes for bloggers each have their strengths and unique features. Twenty Twelve is the default theme for the year and is versatile enough for a blog or website. Able offers up to three columns, while Sight has a right sidebar to highlight widgets. Bloggers can also select Gridspace to utilize the grid pattern or Ascetica for a minimalistic appearance.
