How to Set Up a Favicon on a Blogger Blog?

LetÂ’s find out the steps for creating a favicon and adding it up to the blogger blog template. The steps are simple to follow and you can get a brand new favicon for your blog without any external help.

Favicon is a small image or an icon that appears along with the URL in the left most corner of the address bar in your browser. Favicon can also be found along with the title in the window tab and in the bookmarks or favorites list. Favicons are usually 16 by 16 pixel icons which can be customized by the web masters.

The significance of adding a favicon for a website or a blog is that, it gives a better outlook and a unique identity for your blog or website. It makes it easier for your blog to stand out from the rest and get recognized by the readers. Rather than the default browser icon in the address bar, a favicon will be able to boost the credibility and branding of the blog. It eventually increases the number of potential visitors of your blog.

Let’s find out the steps for creating a favicon and adding it up to the blogger blog template. The steps are simple to follow and you can get a brand new favicon for your blog without any external help.

Steps to Add a Favicon to a Blogger Blog

Choose an image which you would like to use as a favicon for your blog. You can get free images to download or can create on your own using software like adobe photo shop or corel draw. It’s better to choose small images with bold background colors.

Go to website iconj.com and create an account with them. It’s completely free to use. After verifying their email, sign up to your account on iconj.com. (You can find other favicon generating and hosting websites if you wish. Here I’m using iconj.com)

You will be able to see ‘Free favicon Hosting’ header on the home page. Browse and select the image that you will be using as favicon. Then, click on the ‘Upload Now’ button.

Once the upload button is entered, you will be automatically redirected to next step where you can label your favicon and can save it. Your image will be converted to a ‘.ico’ format now. After saving, you will find the message that your favicon has been successfully saved.

Now, select the ‘My Favicon Code’ tab on the left hand side of the web page. It will take you to the favicon code html. Copy the code and save it in a notepad.

Log into your blogger blog and select the ‘Edit Html’ tab under ‘Design’ option, from dashboard. Find the following code from the html of your blog.

<data:blog.pageTitle/>

<b:skin>/*

Copy the favicon code and paste it between the above two lines of code. Final piece of code should look like this:

<data:blog.pageTitle/>

<!- - FAVICON CODE -- >

<b:skin>/*

Now save your changes and view your blog.

If you are bothered about making any mistakes, always download and save a copy of your blog template before editing it. You can upload it back, in case of any issues.

It’s really simple and you will definitely feel good about seeing your own favicon rather than the default blogger icon.
